Seven Groups Of People Who Will Benefit From Vitamin Supplements
If we speak in general, we can say that all of us do need to take vitamin supplements everyday. It is wrong to think that once you take in one or two tablets, the vitamins will be stored in your body and you can stop taking.
Though some vitamins are stored, eventually our body will use it up and along with that there are also vitamins that the body discards. Just don't get the wrong idea that vitamin supplements can replace a healthy diet because they don't. That is why these are called supplements; these merely add things up or fill in the gap.
Other than adults and children, there are other people with unique and specific nutritional needs, and some of them are mentioned below.
1. Workaholics. These are the type of people who love work too much that they are willing to sacrifice eating just to be able to get their work done or to finish more work. Missing meals means you are not going to get the vitamins contained in the foods that you eat. In other cases, most workaholics are fond of eating at fast food chains which can be high in calories but low on other nutrients. In order to compensate for that, these people need to take in vitamin supplements.
2. Menopausal or postmenopausal women. Women at this stage in their life are greatly at risk for osteoporosis, a medical condition which results from the decreasing levels of calcium in the body. When a woman has osteoporosis, she is at risk for fractures. To prevent this condition menopausal or postmenopausal women should take calcium supplements.
3. We aware of the fact that children tend to be picky and they may or may not eat the food that you serve them. Because of this, they will end up lacking in some vitamins. Children are still growing so their bodies should be in tip top shape in order for it to develop properly.
4. Teenagers. We all know how conscious they are with their looks. They wouldn't want people telling them that they are fat or that they are ugly. Beauty is the magic word for kids at this age. When someone picks on them physically or calls them fat, they can get insecure and would resolve to crash dieting and skipping meals. Such a practice can result to them having vitamin deficiency. Vitamins are vital for them because like children their body is still developing.
5. Vegetarians. Vegetables may be healthy but not all vitamins are found on vegetables. That is why people on a vegetarian diet may be deficient with some key nutrients. A vitamin supplement will make up for that without disrupting their diet.
6. Pregnant women. We have heard of babies being born with neural tube defect which is usually attributed to the lack of an essential vitamin known as folic acid. Such a condition can be prevented when a pregnant woman takes in folic acid supplements to boost the levels of folic acid in her body.
7. People with eating disorders. As the classification goes, these people are unable to eat the regular diet simply because their bodies cannot tolerate it. This condition will hamper their capacity to take in nutrient rich foods because most likely they will be put on a specific diet.
Vitamin supplements are there to help us have our fill with the essential nutrients and we should not take these supplements lightly. These will keep our bodies healthy and with a healthy body we will be able to do our daily duties exceptionally.
