The Vitamins That Children Need

In this time and age when the weather has turned out to be more unpredictable, when climates can change from hot to cold in just a few minutes, when global warming is an issue that every being should care about and when all of these changes in temperature have caused various ailments all around the globe, a lot of people are now more concerned with their health and the health of the people they love. As with this, parents are doing all they can to provide their little ones all the needed nutrients integrated in their daily diet to help make them hale and hearty and keep them in the pink of health. Here are a few of those all important vitamins that children need for their every day nourishment.

* Iron. During pregnancy, an expectant mom would need to take additional supplements to increase the iron reserves that she has on her body as she will be supplying this nutrient not only to her own but most importantly, to her growing baby as well. Yes, the baby gets her first supply of iron when she is still inside the mother's womb.

Iron is needed because it is that nutrient that aids our body, more specifically our blood vessels in carrying and transferring oxygen throughout all the different parts of our body. A parent would not want their child to be deficient in iron as this would cause their child to be anemic. He or she would also be very vulnerable to infections and he may get to be irritable and depressed a whole lot.

Girls who are nearing puberty and those who are going through menstruation would need much iron to restore the blood reserves in their system. Serving cereals during breakfast, a bowl of spinach during lunch and perhaps some prunes and beans during dinner can give your kid an ounce of his iron requirement a day.

* Vitamins. More often than not, moms would remind their children to take their vitamins each morning. Why vitamins? For a lot of reasons actually.

Vitamin C, perhaps the most popular vitamin, works to enhance the immune system to overcome any infections that may come forth. This vitamin also speeds up the healing process of any cuts and wounds your kid may have. Vitamin C can be sourced from oranges, lemons, strawberries, potatoes, tomatoes and all other fruits rich in citrus.

Then there is also Vitamin A. This vitamin functions to maintain a healthy glow in your skin and tissues. It also makes your little boys and girls see clearly. Give them a mouthful of this vitamin through servings of yellow vegetables like squash and portions of dairy products such as eggs and cheese.

You can also get good vitamins from the healthy rays of the early morning sun named Vitamin D. Aside from the early sunshine, this vitamin can also be obtained through egg yolks, fish oils and other dairy products. Vitamin D helps in ensuring that your child has healthy bones and teeth.
